Highway 66, one of our freeway tunnel kitties, is STILL looking for his forever home. He is very sweet and loves people along with other cats. We first met Sixy (as a like to call him), sleeping in a shopping cart full of trash. We didn't end up rescuing him the first day we were in the tunnels but ended up getting him on day 3. He has so much more life in his striking green eyes now. He loves all of his little friends, including our doggie. If you're interested in adopting Sixy, please fill out an adoption application by visiting the link in our bio @catsofsanbernardino
Allow us to introduce you to Aura! While we are still learning about Aura, we understand she is a courageous warrior who fought for survival. She was attacked, possibly by a coyote or dog, resulting in injuries to her face and nose. We are grateful that her eyes were spared. We can only imagine the suffering she endured exposed to the elements, and struggling to find food. Aura is skin and bones but displays remarkable affection and gratitude despite missing part of her face. Upon seeing her photographs late last night, we felt compelled to rescue her. We were deeply emotional, and Jaina and I were speechless. We were astonished that such a small creature could persevere with such significant injuries. Little Aura will soon be under the care of our veterinarian for assessment and treatment. The extent of her medical care remains uncertain, but it will undoubtedly be a lengthy process. If you are able, please consider a donation to support her care, or perhaps a recurring monthly contribution to help us provide for her needs.
We started TNR on a new Colony! We got 2 boys and 2 girls. We will be continuing and hopefully finishing the colony next week 💪 Our disclaimer about TNR Below: A little info about these cats for new folks to our page: All of the cats that were released have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. They were returned to the same location where we caught them. They all have designated colony caretakers. Meaning they receive food and water every single day. Our caretakers look after these kitties and let us know if they ever need medical attention. We microchip the cats so that we can be notified if they ever come in to harms way. This would deam the area unsafe for future returns. This has never happened. These cats are not a harm to the very URBAN environment that we live in. They are not catching endangered birds. We are in the center of an urban city. If anyone is worried about the wildlife, please ask why humans decided to put a giant city in the center of it. These feral cats are a product of human ignorance and people not spaying and neutering their pets or believing cats are meant to live outside. These cats are feral, they cannot adopted and domesticating every feral is not an attainable solution. In the amount of time it would take to tame one feral, we could save countless friendly, adoptable cats. Anyone who has a negative opinion on TNR, please share with us what you're doing to fix the feral cat problem. And no, mass euthanasia doesn't work! #tnr #savinglives #catrescue #kitten #kittens #cat
When we were out looking for a sick cat we stumbled upon a kitten that was all alone. We saw her run behind a fence but we weren't able to lure her out. When we peaked into the gap in the fence we noticed there was another kitten that had passed away. We knew it was crucial that we get her out and make sure she wasn't sick ASAP. We were messing around with the fence when our friend Gary showed up to help 💪 He brought with him some muscle and tools to pull the fence down. After removing one panel of the fence we were able to see the kitten and get ahold of her. Gary and Mack then rushed to pull the next panel down. We were able to safely get the kitty out. We named her Puffy Fluffy. Puffy Fluffy went to the vet to be tested for panleukopenia something we always do when we see a deceased cat in the area. Everything came back normal and she's a happy, healthy, little girl. This rescue was 2 weeks ago. Puffy Fluffy has now moved in with Mama Autozone and doing great. Side notes: We did fix the fence after the rescue. We will back to do some TNR because this baby clearly had a mom. We havent found the original cat we were called about. Puffy Fluffy is available for preadoption! If you're interested in adopting her please fill out an adoption application by visiting the link in our bio @catsofsanbernardino
We got Aura's test results back, and he does have cancer 💔 We were so confident because of his other wounds that we were dealing with an injury. Our hearts are so broken for him. We are going to have to make the devastating decision to let him go. Today he is hanging out with us in the sun and we are letting him know how loved he is. He is on his good pain medication and eating the very best food. Thank you to everyone who donated towards his rescue and care. Your donations will go towards saving more lives, a new medical room door, and more isolation kennels for medical rescues.
Aura Update! Firstly Aura is a boy. We might change his name later but for now we will just be focusing on his healing. Overall he did really good at the vet. His wound doesn't look to be infected and he has nice healing new flesh. We are still waiting on test results to definitively rule out cancer and crypto but we are 99% sure its an injury. It looks like it happened around a month ago so he has been dealing with this injury alone on the streets for awhile 💔 The injuries to his legs look to be burns. The burnt areas are on the front/tops of his legs/feet which is really odd. Usually we would see burns to the bottoms of the feet from stepping on something hot. We aren't sure if all the injuries happened at the same time or if it was 2 separate events. This is one of those times we really wish our rescues could talk and tell us what happened. We do believe we will have more healing on the face and we will be promoting that healing with laser therapy. If the area is able to scar over he should be able to live a relatively normal life. All of his teeth and jaw and intake. He doesn't have any breaking or fractures and is able to eat and breathe without any issues. Aura is lucky to be alive. He has a long road ahead but we are hopeful he will make a full recovery. By that we mean that his wounds will heal and he won't be in pain. Thank you to everyone who donated towards his vet bills and care. We couldn't do this without your support. Stay tuned for updates.
On the day we said goodbye to Aura we got called about a litter of kittens in the dumpster area at Auto Zone. Our hearts were aching but we knew we had to help them. The rescue was one of the easiest ever. The kittens were settled into a box and ready to go. We picked them up and then set a trap to get Mama. It only took a few hours for her to come around and go into the trap. We name the babies to honor Aura. We have Aubrey, Austin, Aurelia, August, and Mama Auto. The kittens are all available for preadoption. If you're interested in adopting please fill out an application by visiting the link in our bio @catsofsanbernardino
New Rescue Alert! We have been trying to get this Mama kitty for almost 2 years 😅 She will not enter a traditional or drop trap so it has been a mission to get her spayed. When we found out that she had given birth, we knew this was going to be our one opportunity to secure her. Knowing she wouldn't enter a trap, we had to resort to netting her. Luckily, we were able to get her with the help of our friend. She ended up having 4 healthy little nuggets. Everyone has settled in nicely. Mom has her babies all snuggled in a feral enclosure. Mama Shed will be re-released to her cared for colony once the babies are weaned. Full introductions on the babies coming soon. Thank you to everyone who supports our efforts making rescues like Mama Shed's possible.
