AD Here’s how to grow a bee-friendly garden, from pollinator friendly plants, bee habitats, and mowing the lawn less. I also carry my favourite @Burt’s Bees UK balm in my pocket, which is made with responsibly sourced beeswax. #burtsbees #beeday
April in my cottage garden. Tulips, daffodils, snakeshead fritillaries, primroses, the final few hellebores and underplanted with clouds of forget-me-nots (hardly planted, more self sown wherever the garden has wanted them). #garden #cottage #ducks #runnerducks #gardening
Slow and comforting moments from the garden. Thankfully this year seems to be better for the pollinators so far, and actually for wildlife in general. Lots of lovely creatures doing their thing. I always feel better for watching them. 🐝 #garden #cottage #ducks #runnerducks #spring #cottagegarden
Beautiful May. It feels like everything is coming together in the garden 💚 lots of lovely wildlife including newts, nesting birds, and bees making use of the shallow areas of pond. Although I never get to see them face to face, lots of areas of badger destruction too 😂 but I think they are enjoying themselves. #cottage #garden #ducks #spring #wildlife #cottagegarden #gardeninspo #calm #runnerducks #slowliving
May from my cottage garden. This week our wisteria floribunda alba is flowering for the first time since I planted it six years ago. I’ve been eagerly watching it every spring and finally we have been rewarded. There’s a moment where the wisteria and clematis montana are in bloom together and it looks amazing. How long awaited that was! I’m now waiting for the yew hedge we planted last year to settle into shape. Have done a formative prune and happy with it already, though it has a good few years of growing to do. 💚🌱 #cottage #garden #ducks #tulips #wisteria #spring #calm
Some happy and colourful moments from my garden 💚🌱 I love this time of year, and we have been so blessed with sunshine too. Have a lovely Sunday. #garden #cottage #runnerducks #ducks #spring #cottagegarden #gardeninspo #slowliving #cottagelife
Gentle moments from my spring garden 🌱💕 spring bulbs are in full swing now. The badgers have eaten all of the remaining red tulips, but left the yellow ones alone. It looks quite nice actually 😂 such is trying to garden around the wildlife. #garden #ducks #cottagegarden #wildlife #spring
Such a relief to be in spring (and to actually have good weather and little slug damage!). It’s hard to make short videos this time of year as there’s so much I want to share. At the moment the newts in the wildlife pond are very special indeed. I’ve not had tons of luck growing intentional pond plants because the dogs always pull them out, so this is my third and final attempt at planting the pond up. Some plants arrive by their own accord and cope fine as long as I keep the ducks away from them. I really would like to grow a waterlily though. Keep your fingers crossed that the menagerie behaves itself this time. 😂 #cottage #garden #ducks #runnerducks #calm #gardening
The magic of spring from my cottage garden 🌱🌷 I can’t believe we are nearing the end of April already. It’s been a beautiful start to the garden year, and relatively easy compared to last year when heavy rain meant a huge battle against slugs. Mind you, the ducks probably preferred last year. Most of the tulips have gone over and now it’s time for apple blossom, spring clematis, bluebells and the start of the cow parsley. A few more tulips popping up that I planted late. Squashes and courgettes are starting to germinate in the greenhouse and the tomato plants are just starting to get a little bigger. #gardening #ducks #runnerducks #cottage #garden #calm
So many lovely creatures it was hard to condense into one video. This week I was lucky enough to spot the mole that lives under the lawn as it popped up for a visit. So sweet and soft! It was less keen on me though 😄 the baby birds have fledged the nest in the side of the house too, with more success this year than last. The garden is so wild this year that I’m having trouble harvesting anything annual at all 😂 my broad beans are being eaten by someone once they get any bigger than 2cm. Thank goodness for fruit trees and perennial veg. #garden #cottagegarden #wildlife #gardeninspo #spring #ducks #runnerducks #beatrixpotter #cottagelife
AD It’s been a gloriously sunny start to the growing year in my cottage garden, and I’m getting my seedlings ready with some help from @sarah raven I ordered a mix of edible and ornamental seeds for planting up my polytunnel and vegetable garden - Sarah Raven always have a wonderfully curated selection of seeds and plants, and I find a mix of edible and ornamental plants is practical, beautiful, and enticing to pollinating friends. I also ordered some rubber seed trays that will be reusable in future years, and some organic peat-free compost. I am so excited to get growing again this year. Stay tuned to see how we get on as we move through spring into summer. #cottage #garden #cottagegarden #spring #gardeninspo #gardenideas #cottagelife
Wishing you a happy new month. In the garden now we have summer clematis, the first few strawberries, roses (rambling rector and Eden look the best at the moment). I’m trying to get my tomatoes and courgettes in the ground this week. All on the small side this year but I’m sure it will catch up. You may have seen on my story that our blue agave started flowering this week too. It’s sometimes called a death flower as the plant will die after, but before that the flower will reach a height of 6-8m. Very exciting to see, but inconveniently the plant is in the greenhouse, so we have to try and get the roof tiles off asap 😂 have any of you ever seen or grown one? Are they likely to topple in the wind and take the greenhouse with it? #cottagegarden #garden #ducks #runnerducks #gardeninspo #calm #slowliving #wildlife #cottagelife #cottage
Spring from my cottage garden. Crocuses, primroses, nesting birds and newts. And runner ducks of course. It’s messy, wild and full of life. 🌱🐝🦆 #cottage #garden #ducks #runnerducks #calm #relaxing #gardening #wildlife
