One down, three to go… Rori the lion is on his way home! 🦁 We have successfully collected Rori from Natuurhulpcentrum! After a smooth health check, he was safely crated and loaded onto the transport truck. With everything going to plan, the team is now en route to collect Vanda, followed by sisters Amani and Lira at Pairi Daiza. We did it… MISSION ACCOMPLISHED 🦁 After almost a year of hard work and determination, we can proudly share that we have successfully rescued five lions from Ukraine, and moved them into to their new forever home: The Lion Rescue Centre. Rori, Vanda, Amani and Lira, have now been reunited with Yuna and moved into their new habitats. This is a significant moment for everyone here at The Big Cat Sanctuary, as the team are now able to give all five lions a second chance at life. A Very Special Arrival… Meet Our Newborn Snow Leopard Cub! 🐾 On 10th May, a beautiful female snow leopard cub was born here at the Sanctuary! Affectionately nicknamed “Little Lady” by our team, this tiny arrival is already capturing hearts. Both mum and cub are doing brilliantly, and the team is delighted with their progress so far. This birth marks a significant milestone in our work through the endangered species breeding programme, which helps maintain a genetically healthy population and provides a vital safety net for the future of snow leopards. 🐾 The Big Cat Sanctuary has some INCREDIBLY EXCITING news to share 👀 An ultrasound has confirmed that Laila, our beloved snow leopard, is expecting her fourth litter in May! 🥰 This achievement marks a vital step forward in the breeding and conservation of this endangered species. Snow leopards are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, with only 2,700–3,300 mature adults remaining in the wild. Keira, our golden jaguar, has taken on the independent life since her move into her own space! Often seen relaxing on her platforms or playing with enrichment, she’s been keeping herself happily occupied! Keira remains part of the International Breeding Programme, though she currently doesn’t have a breeding partner. 🐾 Meet Luca, our Amur tiger! 🐾 Ever noticed that Amur tigers sometimes look a bit paler than other tigers? 👀 That’s no coincidence! Native to the snowy forests of northern China and Russia, these big cats have evolved lighter coats with pale bellies and faces to help them blend into their wintry surroundings ❄️ In winter, their muted colours provide the perfect camouflage in the snow. And in summer?
