When it comes to cleanliness, Turks can definitely be a little extra compared to other cultures — and honestly, it’s just a normal part of our lives! Especially Turkish women are famous for their love (maybe obsession?) for keeping everything spotless. Living in a country where we experience all four seasons, with rain, snow, dust, and mud, it’s almost impossible for shoes to stay clean. That’s why wearing shoes inside the house is just not part of our culture. Plus, in a country where the majority of people are Muslim, the home is often treated like a sacred space, and cleanliness is a huge part of worship. Growing up this way, it doesn’t matter where we move — even here in America, I simply cannot allow shoes inside my house!
As Turks, we don’t just speak our feelings — we show them. When someone leaves, we pour water behind them, wishing their journey to be as smooth and safe as the flowing water. A mother does this when her son leaves for the military, a neighbor when moving to a new home… Each drop carries a prayer, each ripple a silent hope. It’s a beautiful tradition that lives deep in our hearts. What about your culture? Do you have meaningful traditions like this? Türkiye is truly special. A Muslim-majority country where secularism, freedom, and respect for differences are deeply valued. Without politics dividing us, we live together beautifully — with hijabs and bikinis on the same beach, prayers and celebrations side by side. This is the real Türkiye I know and love. #Turkey #Türkiye #TurkishCulture #Secularism #LifeInTurkey #MuslimCountry #TravelTurkey #TurkishTraditions #CultureAndFreedom #MiddleEastButDifferent #UnityInDiversity #RespectAll #LivingTogether #peacefullife
