When we spotted these melon headed whales I knew it was the perfect time to compare these two cameras! I prefer the color of the @DJI Osmo over the go pro as the go pro always shows a purple tint underwater. I’m not great at color correcting so I prefer footage that is ready to go right after being shot! Both of these shots are completely unedited & raw. I feel like you can especially see the true to life color of the Osmo Action 5 Pro at the shot of the trash at the end! In honor of spooky season, I did a blackwater dive with Jacks Diving Locker & Simone Matucci searching for aliens in the deep, dark, open ocean! You never know what will come along on a dive like this! We actually even heard dolphins super loud but they stayed about 50ft away just out of my view! This was such an amazing moment that I couldn’t believe was happening & I’ll never forget! I love those moments when you’re in the right place at the right time. It’s so exciting for me because I’ve never seen a whale open its mouth this close to me to get a good look at their baleen. The humpback whales don’t feed in their warmer areas of migration as they are there for mating & birthing their calves. So when they open their mouth it’s more rare & we aren’t sure of the reason. When I replayed the video I thought maybe this baby mistook the bubbles for milk. A friend of mine also mentioned he had seen the baby do this on other occasions just before it was about to go down & nurse with mom. For whatever the reason, it was one of those moments in the ocean I’ll be grateful for forever! Once momma takes baby to Antarctica, she’ll teach her how to feed on krill using her baleen to strain the water out of her mouth. I watched as @karimiliya shared a brief dance with a baby humpback as mom rests below. 🥹🐋 I have never seen a whale that loved people as much as this baby. She sought after human interaction & would get as close to people as possible. An interaction like this could never be forced & only occurs when the whale chooses to interact & most importantly for the babies, when mom feels comfortable & trusts you. 2 mom & calf pairs in the sand! 🤯 As we were peacefully swimming with this sleepy mom & calf, a more energetic pair came into the area & circled a bit. Seeing these guys take interest in one another made me wonder if the moms ever fully rest & let the calves play like a real whale play date. Somehow, seeing 2 mom & calf pairs together happened to us twice during this week, so more to come. The interactions were always brief but was definitely my highlight from this last week! If you find yourself around a shark, you dont want to look like easy prey by swimming away quickly, splashing & panicking. You want to face the shark, stay calm, avoid splashing, & make eye contact. You can even try to make yourself look larger & like another apex predator by extending your legs & opening your shoulders. Slowly back away out of the water without splashing. Try to keep something between you & the shark or use this method to deter them as a last result. Sharks arent out to get us, but they are predators with natural instincts so it’s important we use our body language to communicate that we are not prey. On this dive we had 9 tiger sharks & I counted 7 in this frame! Despite having so many sharks, they were all pretty cautious & even shy at times, which is more common for this species. Though we most often show the monents of having to deter or redirect sharks, there are so many more moments where we dont need to touch them & they are just swimming around. 💙🦈 #tigershark #sharkdiving #savesharks #sharkdiver #sharks #ocean

A sharks behavior can change in an instant, so when interacting with them its vital to continue to stay ready, watch, & follow through with the animal until it safely passes you. In this instance it’s possible the shark felt the electricity given off by my camera as it got closer in range. Sharks have a 6th sense where they pick up electrical currents in the water using their ampullae of lorenzini. Just casually passing some tiger sharks back & forth with my friend Nick! I love watching the sharks behavior as they interact with us & each other! They will often follow cues from one another on what is interesting to check out in their environment. The sharks lost interest in us throughout the video as they continued to get redirected & eventually stopped coming in for contact.
