story time ✨🕊️🤸‍♀️ In 2020, I was living in my little hometown, Destin, FL, with a God-sized dream of becoming a full time singer songwriter in LA. I had the clearest vision for a music video of my first ever song that required a lot of set design. So, with what I had - a truly small budget, 1,000 paint chips from Home Depot, and my best friends- I got to work and, after a heck ton of grit and persistence, we made an epic video. But little did I know how life changing that video would be for me... I decided to post a video of my friends and I building the paint-chip-art-wall on TT, and it quickly went viral... like 19 million views viral. And out of nowhere, People Magazine called me to write an article on how I set designed my music video! After the article was published, I got a call from a Florida-based magazine to be on the cover of their next issue. They had a photographer named Sean Murphy (who had shot a lot of @weezer’s album covers and who I'd looked up to for YEARS) shoot the cover, and he told me to move to LA and helped me find a few people in the big city to help me get into production sessions for music once I moved. So I did. I moved. And life continues to be a wild, ever-evolving adventure. I look back at these seemingly serendipitous moments and see God's hand through it all. From even the idea to build an art wall like this to having such kind friends to God preparing a way for Los Angeles to even be a city I get to call home now!! TW: miscarriage from 5 years ago. For the longest time I dismissed my grief of loss because I convinced myself an early loss is nowhere near as tragic and traumatizing that loss in later gestation. But I have come to realize, no matter the time a baby is held in utero we still all, unfairly, don’t have our babies. I miss him and all the what l could have beens. This is a short clip of an hour breakdown after we got off the phone with our doctor. We recorded like any other person who would record their reaction to hopefully a positive pregnancy. We were hoping our doctor was telling us the pregnancy was continuing but instead it was opposite and you witnessed our real reaction to the news. My husband is taking my estrogen patches off my stomach and this was right after we got off the call with our reproductive endocrinologist who let us know my HCG was declining and baby was no longer viable and to help my body miscarry I needed to stop all medications and hormones. To miscarry without warning or knowledge of what that entailed was not only physically so so hard, but mentally and emotionally I was wrecked. Still am. What do you mean I have to flush the toilet? Literally what kept playing over in my head. I watched as each blood clot left me. I even caught some in my hands. I was so desperately searching for something. Anything. Idk if I did see or my mind was playing but I swear I saw a blush of white/greyness and I sobbed thinking that could have been my baby. It is hard because I didn’t get to name him. I didn’t even know his gender until six months later. I felt like I failed grieving his life because in our IVF journey and process we had to move on and forward for many reasons. I failed grieving his life because I continuously diminished my loss, his loss, because society said “at least it was early” “at least you have more embryos” “at least you didn’t have to get a D&C” “at least.. at least.. at least..” Today was one of those random days where grief hit me. I unpacked a new table set for my kids and had an extra chair from another set. As I placed the chair down I stepped back and just looked and welled up. Three chairs. I’ll keep it this way.
